PROFESSOR TOY
Brand strategy, custom illustration, and art direction for Professor Toy — an educational toy retail brand rooted in mid-century science nostalgia and curiosity-driven play. Handed an initial logo and mascot design, we gave the Professor personality, a voice, and a living brand system built to flex across seasons, cultural moments, and physical retail environments.
BUILDING A WORLD OF CURIOUS PLAY
The Sister Brand Challenge
Professor Toy operates as PartyWorks' sister company — running its own dedicated standalone store while powering curated educational toy sections inside every PartyWorks retail hub in the Central Valley. Handed a static logo and character sketch, the assignment was clear: build everything else. The brand needed a distinct voice, a robust strategic foundation, and the creative infrastructure to stand proudly on its own.
Giving the Mascot Life
The Professor mascot arrived as a flat graphic. We gave him personality, curiosity, and dynamic energy. By building an extensible illustration system around him — complete with mid-century atomic orbits, chalkboards, clipboard checklists, and dinosaur fossils — we transformed a static graphic into a living brand ambassador capable of anchoring in-store signage, digital campaigns, and social media.
Cultural & Seasonal Adaptability
A core strategic requirement was cultural flexibility. The Professor needed to celebrate local community moments — donning a festive sombrero with maracas for Cinco de Mayo just as naturally as he commands a laboratory chalkboard. We architected the character system so variations retain immediate brand recognition while feeling genuinely tailored and locally rooted.
COLOR TOKENS & TYPOGRAPHY HIERARCHY
The visual identity pairs an authentic 8-color retro-scientific palette with BN Danimals — a playful, hand-drawn display typeface with expressive geometry that captures the brand's approachable, curiosity-driven spirit.
